This piece consists of a set of concentric loops that were made by hand with water-based brush tipped markers.
The few people who have seen this actual piece often ask if the work is made of tree rings. The concentric loops evoke the patterns from the wood that made the paper. However, no actual tree rings were referenced in order to make this artwork.
The use of brush tipped marker gives the line much more variability as it travels around the field. The scale of this piece allows for appreciation from a variety of distances. Emergent textures created by the unpredictability of my hand ripple throughout this piece, providing a gratifying field for optic exploration.
This piece is inspired in part by ideas from quantum field theory, the biological basis of vision, op-art, and absurdism.
Price: $3000
